VALLAMKALI (BOAT RACE)

Vallamkali or the Snake Boat Race is the most enchanting facet of the festival of Onam. The event is promoted as a major tourist attraction of the state of Kerala and draws a large number of domestic and international tourists. Vallamkali has been going on for good number of years and its popularity is soaring with each passing year. Much credit for the success of Snake Boat Race can be attributed to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru who was so enamoured by this colourful event that he instituted a trophy for the race.

PUNNATHUR KOTTA

Punnathur Kotta (Annakotta), near Guruvayur, which is 30 kms away from of Asramam in Thrissur District of Kerala is famous for the Elephant Sanctuary. This place is only 3 kms from Guruvayur temple where elephants are trained for temple purposes. Here right now more than 60 elephants are kept.

The reigning deity of Kodungallur, the legend, is none other than Kannaki - who set fire to the whole city of Madura to take revenge on the Chera King who put to death her innocent husband. Kannaki left Madhura and settled herself at Kodungallur.

Azhikode - the place where St.Thomas set foot on Indian Land first in AD 52 is very near to P.N. Ayurvedasramam. Marthoma Church is one of the renowned pilgrim centres in Kerala. It's one of the famous devotional places in kerala
